Name: Donnie Meyer
Location: Texas Christian University
Comments: I was assigned to the 1st Mobile Communications Group from 1969 to 1974. The unit was being re-assigned from Clark Air Base . I spent numerous TDY's in Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwain, Korea, Japan and Okinawa. I was in Power Pro and worked in the generator repair facility, Quality Control and the Quality Assurance Division. I met so many great people while assigned to the 1st Mob. We would always carry a can of orange paint and would tag every piece of machinery, facility or equipment with our famous orange caribou logo. The MOB sure got around. I think those years were the best of my career because of the people who made up the group. I was so happy when I was informed that the 1st MOB was alive and well. 01/23/2003 12:03:13am
Name: Donnie Meyer
Location: Texas Christian University
Comments: Hello Mobsters. Here I am in 2003 working at a great university and while surfing the web, decided to see if I could find a web page for the 1st MOB. Was I ever surprised to read the entries from those who had served with the 1st Mobile Communications Group at Clark AFB, Phillipines. I was assigned to the MOB from 1969 to 1974. Some of the best times of my career. I retired in 1976 and I can remember numerous TDY's to Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwain, Korea, Japan and Okinawa. I worked in the power production shop, the quality control and quality assurance divisions. I remember we always tagged everything in sight with out famous orange caribou logo. Met the best while assigned to the MOB. I wish I could go back and re-live those times for awhile.
Anybody out there want to e-mail me, will return too.

Comments: Surfed across this website and found it most interesting. Although I never a 1st MOB member, I was stationed at Lindsey A.S. from July 1979 thru June 1981. My best memory was Sheila, one of the most wonderful persons on Earth who worked at the Rocker Club, and I became good friends of George and Paola Hayes and their two daughters; Jack Hayes and Tony Anderson, previous 1st MOB members who were stationed with Sheila and me at Griffiss A.F. N.Y. I was dissapointed that Lindsey A.S. closed, hoping to return to bring back the some of the best memories of my life.

Comments: Hi Folks! Well, after having been turned on to this great alum association by Becky and Greg Poulliot, I thought I'd chime in! (Again?)
Greatest tour of all. Ops, Maintenance, other sections -- love you all. ORIs, MRIs, MREs, PDQs, the days at Lindsey and 30 TDYs will always be in my fondest memories.
Great to see so many people from the astonishing 1981 - 1984 days! So many people I've thought about over the years!
Well, after the Tactical Operations Branch (finding every square inch of space for people to work in-station...hehe) I went on to the University of Colorado, Boulder and picked up an M.S. in Telecommunications, then went to the White House Communications Agency, then was detailed in D.C. to do "other things," then bailed from the AF in Dec 89.
Been in Russia nearly 10 years. Made a million bucks (literally); lost a million bucks (sigh) setting up and running telecom companies. Dabble in the "import-export biz" and live happily alone. :)
Last person I saw was Steph Pettit (Kendrick) - COMSEC - at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska in 1989, with her little daughter. I suppose she retired and lives in Alaska.
Wow! I wish I could list all those I'd like to hear from! Oops. "From whom I would like to hear..."
Bravo for a great site. And bravo to the fine people who put in their best and received the best experience one could get in the AF. Seems to be a common theme that unites First Commers and Mobsters.
Chuck (former 1st Lieutenant, OIC, Tactical Operations Branch, 1CMBTCG, Lindsey AS, Germany)
P.S. Anybody know what happened to Art Thompson, TTY Ops, or that crazy guy in Maintenance Control, TSgt Johnson?

Comments: Col. Bertie never liked our being referred to as "First Mob," but that's who we were. Got to Clark Apr 66, 1st TDY was to Bangkok Jun 66, and returned after a few weeks in July. $18.00/day per diem. On my wildest day, I spent maybe $5.00 total. I remember the trip over in a C-124 with it's R4360 engines. The exhaust manifolds glowed red in the darkening sky, since we departed CAB in the late afternoon. We were flying in the glow of a gorgeous sunset most of the time! The trip back was in a C-130, and when we got in the glide slope on approach to Clark, it felt like I was Coming Home. The feeling was the same every time I came back from TDY, or flew back for my 2nd tour in 5th TAC. Does anyone have a decent photo of our neat black Mob hats? I'd sure like to find one! (eBay? not!) Maybe I can use one of the embroidery/ sewing machines my wife has. This old dog will learn a new trick or two. I'm already learning to quilt, but that's another story. I wonder if the house is still there in Plaridel, after PinaBoom? Cheers and 73 -Ray

Comments: I arrived in the Philippines in Sept 1964, cleared in and out on the same orders, the same day. Arrived in Udorn, Thiland 3 days later. I had 13 people on my team when we opened the Udorn AB, Thiland. All that was there was Air America on the other side of the runway. I also opened the first NCO Club, the first Base Exchange and built the first permanet Single Sideband Radio Station. I departed Udorn Dec 64, returned to Clark, Col Birdie gave me a another team on the Gemini Recovery where I stayed until returning to the States in 1966. I lost contact with a dear friend Hornsby also a Radio Operator. If anyone knows his whereabouts please advise me. Thanks John

Comments: 1st MCGp, CAB, RP Jun 71 to Nov 73. This is a great site! Unfortunately my advanced state of CRS leading into CRAF prevents me from recognizing any names except Lt/Capt Agu Medvedev. This is only because his name is "somewhat different." Mubuhai to all CAB first Mobbers. I remember the Mickey Mobile hats and send-offs at the terminal for the deros-ing mobbers and all the great comrarderie. It was the best!

Comments: The Best of the Best, I became part of the 1st CCGP family in June of 1986, retuned to the states only after Lindsey AS Germany was to closed-1 July 1992. I would not trade my experiences in the 1st for anything! I had a BLAST and would do it again, without a doubt, anytime, anywhere! To all of you GOD BLESS!
