Load up .... Move out ........
Major Sam Leibovitz, Maintenance Control Officer, supervising the loading of an MPN 13 GCA radar onto a C-130 aircraft.
Clark Air Force Base, Philippines 1967-1969
"A GCA was needed at Quang Tri, Vietnam, but the runway there was too short to accommodate a C-124 aircraft (our largest used to transport an MPN-13). The Mob solved the problem by removing the MPN-13 from it`s under- carriage as shown on the picture, and sliding it onto a C-130. It was a tight fit. The under-carriage and the maintenance and operations crews were sent in another C-130 to Quang Tri, where the unit was mated together again - an example of the Mob`s "Can - Do" attitude." - Bill Shine, 1st Mob Chief of Maintenance |
